Modeh Ani
Gratitude Journal

According to Jewish tradition, the first words to be uttered upon waking in the morning are a short prayer of gratitude, which begins with: Modeh/Modah Ani, ‘Grateful I am.’ It is not only a prayer of gratitude for waking up and for having the opportunity to engage in life another day; it is a strong statement of identity: I am grateful. I am someone who gives thanks.

Inspired by this prayer, we recommend keeping a small gratitude journal and pen near your bed. Make it a practice to jot down one thing you’re grateful for every morning as you wake up.
